Privacy Policy

Introduction

Childcare Trust (“CCT”, “we”, “us” or “our”) is a non-governmental organisation registered in Nigeria, providing centre-based care, education and development services for children with disabilities. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal data responsibly, in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA) and other applicable laws.

This policy explains what information we collect through our website at childcare-trust.org, how we use it, and the rights you have over it.

Information we collect

We collect personal data in the following ways:

  • Information you give us. When you use our contact or get-involved forms, we collect the details you provide — such as your name, email address, phone number and message. When you make a pledge, we collect your name, email address, the amount and frequency of your gift and, if you choose to give it, your phone number.
  • Payment information. We do not take card payments on this website. Gifts are made by bank transfer from your own bank, so we never see or store your card or online-banking details. When your transfer arrives, our bank shows us the sender's name, amount and narration, which we use to match it to your pledge and issue a receipt.
  • Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our hosting provider may log basic technical data (such as IP address, browser type and pages visited) for security and to keep the site running reliably.

How we use your information

  • To respond to your enquiries and messages.
  • To process volunteer, partnership and programme expressions of interest.
  • To record pledges, match them to bank transfers and issue receipts.
  • To maintain, protect and improve our website.
  • To comply with our legal and regulatory obligations.

Lawful basis

We process your personal data on the basis of your consent (which you give by submitting a form or making a pledge), our legitimate interest in operating and improving our services, and where necessary to comply with the law. You may withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us.

Children's data and beneficiaries

Our website is intended for use by adults (for example, parents, guardians, donors and partners) and is not designed for children to submit personal information.

We treat information about the children and families we serve with the utmost care. We do not publish identifying information or photographs of beneficiaries without the appropriate consent of a parent or guardian.

How we share information

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with trusted service providers who help us run the website and our services, and only as needed:

  • Sanity — content management for our blog and gallery.
  • Cloudinary — hosting of images.
  • Email/hosting providers (including our email service and Vercel) — to deliver form submissions and serve the website.
  • Vimeo and Google Maps — our film (hosted on Vimeo) only loads when you press play, and the map on our contact page is provided by Google. When they load, these services receive standard technical data such as your IP address.

We may also disclose information where required by law or to protect the rights and safety of CCT, the children we serve, or others.

International transfers

Some of our service providers may store or process data outside Nigeria. Where this happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure your data continues to be protected to a standard consistent with the NDPA.

Data retention

We keep personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy, or as required by law, after which it is securely deleted. Pledge and donation records are kept for as long as we need them to issue receipts and meet our accounting and legal obligations; enquiries and form submissions are deleted once they have been dealt with and are no longer needed.

Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your rights

Under the NDPA, you have the right to:

  • Request access to the personal data we hold about you.
  • Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Ask us to delete your data, where appropriate.
  • Withdraw consent to our processing of your data.
  • Lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us.

Cookies

Our website uses only the cookies necessary for it to function and to keep it secure. We do not use cookies for advertising.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with a revised “last updated” date.
